6 hours ago Welcome to draft day - The Splash Zone 4/25/24
Welcome to the Splash Zone, the quickest way to get your day started off right. We bring you a rundown of Miami Dolphins news from the last 24 hours. Tonight, the Miami Dolphins will add the newest player to their roster when they make their selection in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. That is, if they choose to stay in the first round. The team still has some needs to take care of mainly on the offensive and defensive lines. So it won’t be shocking if the Dolphins draft a player for one of those positions. Or perhaps Mike McDaniel will use his first ever first round selection on an offensive playmaker. Xavier Worthy has been linked to Miami and would bring more speed to an already fast offense. It’s going to be a fun night. So grab some snacks and drinks and enjoy the show. You can check out that story here, and the rest of the day’s round-up below. Why Dolphins' best-available drafting philosophy may really be best available | Habib - Yahoo SportsMiami Dolphins GM Chris Grier subscribes to picking the best-available player on his board. Dolphins Wide Receivers Some Needed Perspective on the Xavier Worthy-to-Miami Dolphins Hype TrainThe Miami Dolphins could land dynamic Texas WR Xavier Worthy in the NFL Draft. But if they take him at 21, it would raise serious questions about their process. Xavier Worthy, all-time 40-yard dash champion, would break Internet if drafted by Dolphins - Yahoo SportsWould the Dolphins really draft the fastest football player in college football this week? Well, yeah, I mean, of course they would. (It's Xavier Worthy.) 19 hours ago Former Dolphins CB Xavien Howard cleared for football activities
Paul Rutherford-USA TODAY Sports Xavien Howard slammed the door shut on a return to Miami in March after being released. Former Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard saw his 2023 campaign prematurely end due to a foot injury against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17. Four months later, the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback is ready to turn the page to 2024. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday that Howard’s doctor penned — or typed — a letter to teams that the 2020 first-team All-Pro was cleared to resume football activities. Four-time Pro Bowl CB Xavien Howard was fully cleared for football activities earlier this month, his doctor informed teams in a letter. Howard, who’s a free agent, battled a foot injury throughout last season. Some potential post-draft help incoming. pic.twitter.com/5qsPqcfPUy— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) April 24, 2024 Howard, 30, made 45 tackles, defended eight passes, and intercepted one ball throughout his 13-game 2023 season. He played just four snaps in Week 17 before suffering the season-ending injury. The Dolphins released Howard early in the offseason. They designated him as a post-June 1 cut because of a projected $25.9 million cap hit — which would’ve been Miami’s second-highest behind only Tyreek Hill. Opposing quarterbacks threw just two touchdown passes while targetting Howard in coverage last season. He spent eight seasons with the Dolphins but still has gas in the tank. Howard missed just seven tackles in 2023 and quarterbacks completed 62% of attempts while targeting him. Dolphins’ general manager Chris Grier left the door open on a potential return to Miami, but as of early March, the two-time interception leader sounded ready to move on. “That door is closed. I’m sorry,” Howard told the Joe Rose show. Xavien Howard tells us on @560WQAM on a possible return to the Dolphins "that door is closed."— The Joe Rose Show (@JoeRoseShow) March 7, 2024

1 day ago Elastika Brings Modern Dining to the Historic Moore Building
Inside Elastika. | Todd Coleman The longstanding venue in the Miami Design has gotten a major facelift — complete with a new restaurant The Moore building in the Miami Design District is back after being closed for renovations — and is now set to be home to Elastika, a new modern-American restaurant, alongside a private members club, boutique hotel, executive offices, and gallery space. Set to debut this weekend on the building’s first floor, Elastika is helmed by Executive Chef Joe Anthony and draws inspiration from Miami’s international culture and the Moore’s century-long history. The restaurant is named after the Zaha Hadid sculpture “Elastika,” which is suspended in the four-story atrium above the dining room and was originally commissioned for the inaugural Design Miami/ exhibition in 2005. Todd Coleman Kingfish crudo. The menu at Elastika includes dishes such as heirloom tomato gazpacho with pickled tomatillos, avocado, and fennel pollen focaccia; citrus-cured kingfish crudo with fermented farro, kohlrabi, and cucumber “aguachile”; grass-fed bison tartare with escabeche aioli, umami crumble; eggplant and sheep’s milk ravioli with fricassee, mushrooms, and pine nut froth; grilled heritage pork “ribeye” with Tiny Farm’s turnips, grilled broccoli rabe, and red verjus-cardamom sauce; and miso marinated beef tenderloin with Castle Valley Mill’s farro, herb coulis, and carrot “hot sauce.” Todd Coleman Heirloom roasted tomato gazpacho. The Moore building, one of Miami’s most recognizable properties, was originally built by Theodore T.V. Moore and architect David P. Davis during the 1920s Florida Land Boom on a former pineapple farm and estate, initially serving as a furniture showroom and warehouse before becoming a venue for high-profile events, activations, and art exhibitions, with its Neoclassical design influencing the surrounding area’s development for decades. Elastika, located beneath its namesake sculpture in The Moore, combines a modern design with the building’s historical features. The interior, a collaboration between WoodHouse and ICRAVE, includes an 18-seat bar, velvet banquettes, a semi-private dining area for up to 12, and a lounge near the original staircase. The renovation added a new skylight and a sidewalk patio with greenery. Furniture throughout the restaurant is from Brazil-based Sossego, using sustainably harvested wood. The art collection, curated by Miami’s Monica Kalpakian, features pieces like Rob Pruitt’s “US (detail), 2013” from Rosa de la Cruz’s collection. Elastika will be open at 191 NE 40th Street for dinner 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Lunch will be open noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday starting May 3, 2024. For more information visit here.
